Trail Report: Friday, July 18
As we roll through summer, we continue to enjoy wonderful brown pow thanks to seasonably cool temps and regular rain. The biggest problem right now are the mosquitoes, which are fierce, relentless, and innumerable. We recommend carrying bug spray, wearing long sleeves and/or a bug net, or channelling your inner Buddha and becoming zen with the mozzies.
Our trail crew spent most of their time up on Frisby Ridge this week doing a whole lot more brushing, blowing, raking, rock removal, and drainage work. Thank you Glacier Helicopters for the assist! The trail is in great shape but due to the rain, you will encounter some puddles and muddy spots. Please slow down and ride through them. DO NOT go around and widen the trail. A little mud and water won't hurt you, but tire tracks do cause damage to the environment.
We do need to clarify something we said in our post on Monday about the groomer incident in the lake near the cabin on Frisby Ridge. The diesel spill associated with this incident was quite small and initial water quality testing met provincial standards. However, until further testing is completed, we advise against drinking from or swimming in the lake. The Revelstoke Snowmobile Club is working with an environmental professional to monitor and remedy the situation and will provide updates as soon as they are available.
Elsewhere, a storm ripped through town Wednesday evening and we've received reports of trees down in a few spots. If you encounter one on your ride, please send us a photo and the location so our trail crew or a volunteer can go remove it. The worst hit trails were Yew R Here and Quarry, so we suggest avoiding them until we can deal with the damage.
If you're visiting Revelstoke to ride this week, please consider purchasing a weekly membership at join.hivepass.app/rca. For $10, you support our trail program and can enjoy the benefits of membership during your visit. Your contribution is much appreciated.
